Gowri Rajendran holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Melbourne, specialising in music pedagogy with a Major in Piano and a Minor in Voice. She is now available for piano and voice lessons with Melbourne Piano School at her studio in Bentleigh.
Gowri studied under esteemed Russian pianist Igor Machlak and Australian soprano Vivien Hamilton. With nearly two decades of teaching experience at leading music schools across Melbourne, Gowri is a highly experienced and passionate educator. Alongside teaching, she performs regularly with the Melbourne early music chamber choir, Ensemble Gombert, and has toured throughout Australia and Europe. Gowri began her own musical education at the age of three through the Yamaha method, where she honed her aural skills as the foundation of her musical journey. She later trained as a Yamaha teacher and discovered the magic of teaching music to mirror how one would learn a language - first by listening, then expressing (singing/playing), before reading and writing. This training of the ears before the eyes helps students focus on the most important elements of developing musicality, and flips the script on most traditional music teaching methods that overly emphasise the eyes and neglect aural development. Through listening to sounds, understanding sounds, being able to use one’s own voice to reproduce sounds and sing the notes in harmonic contexts, Gowri helps students build a deep connection between their ears, their voice and creative expression through their fingers on the piano keys. Gowri understands that every student is unique, and she tailors her lessons to match each individual’s passions and interests. She enjoys discovering her students’ musical tastes and incorporates their favourite songs into lessons, ensuring that learning is engaging, self-directed, and fun. Her teaching fosters personal expression, creativity, and a deeper connection to music in a relaxed and supportive environment. In addition to her work as a music teacher, Gowri is a Registered Music Therapist. She completed her Master of Music Therapy at the University of Melbourne and works with children in a special developmental school. Through music, she helps improve communication, social-emotional skills, cognitive function, and motor skills, bringing the transformative power of music to those who need it most. Bentleigh Piano Tuition Fees: 30 minutes - $50 45 minutes - $70 60 minutes - $90 Above fees are for ongoing weekly lessons, paid in advance by the term. Casual lessons may be offered dependent on availability and fees are an additional $5.50 per lesson. |
