Robert Zocchi is an experienced performer and highly qualified piano teacher who holds a Master of Music degree. A passionate educator for nearly four decades, he now offers piano lessons to students of all ages from his home studio in Northcote.
Robert teaches all styles of music using a variety of methods depending on individual learning needs. During his expansive career as a music educator at private schools his main teaching positions were at Caulfield Grammar School, Alphington Grammar School and Lowther Hall Anglican Girls Grammar School. Robert has prepared students for VCE Music and AMEB exams, been an in-house VCE examiner for piano and other instruments, and accompanied students in their exams as well as at other performance events. As a pianist, Robert has performed extensively throughout Australia. He has performed at live national solo ABC broadcasts from the Sydney Opera House and the National Gallery of Victoria. Notable solo repertoire he has performed includes 16 of the 32 Beethoven Sonatas, the 6 Paganini/Liszt Etudes, and the complete Debussy Preludes Bk 1. Robert has performed and offered guest lectures at most Australian universities with a music department, including Sydney University, Melbourne University, Monash University, Queensland University, Edith Cowan University, and the University of Tasmania. He has worked as a soloist with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (Prokofiev Concerto No 1), with Canberra Symphony Orchestra (Ravel Concerto for Left Hand), and with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (Liszt Concerto No 2). Robert has also served as an accompanist to singers and instrumentalists on numerous occasions, and has enjoyed playing piano for chamber music ensembles (Ravel Trio and Bartok Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion) In 1984 he was involved in the creation of one of Australia's first CDs of new Australian work. Robert has extensive knowledge of music theory and enjoys incorporating theory fundamentals into the lessons, especially for those students who are interested in composition, exams, or improving their general music knowledge.
