Shane Rohde, Pianist, Educator & Accompanist
Shane Rodhe is a Melbourne-based pianist and accompanist with extensive experience teaching piano and performance across a variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, popular, contemporary and improvisation.
Originally self-taught, Shane later studied piano with Mack Jost to A.Mus.A level, as well as completed post-graduate piano performance studies under the tutelage of renowned pianist / composer Michael Kieran Harvey. Shane holds a First class Honours degree in Composition and Analysis from La Trobe University. He regularly performs locally as a soloist and band member, and has performed in Europe.
Apart from piano teaching, Shane has carved out a livelihood as an accompanist for both pedagogic and artistic Eurythmy – a new dance movement form unique to Steiner education. It is through this association with Steiner education and Anthroposophy in general that Shane has gained an understanding of the spiritual elements inherent in music and as such endeavours to impart this conscious contact to potential students. This comes about primarily through deep listening to tone quality rather than the educative reinforcement gained through mere hearing – a conviction that that the strength of clarity of thought and concentration are key to successful performances, no matter which genre.
Shane enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities from his studio in Collingwood.
Shane teaches on a Kawai grand piano at his home studio at 245 Otter St., Collingwood, VIC 3066
