Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Melbourne Piano School Response & Health Policy
UPDATED 6 JULY 2021
Most of our teachers are now resuming in-person piano lessons. We continue to offer online piano lessons for students who prefer not to attend a studio. Our Health Policy below is in place to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
The Health Policy below applies to in-person piano lessons for all lessons conducted at studios of Melbourne Piano School teachers.
1. Students are advised not to attend lessons if feeling unwell
If you / your child has been feeling unwell, we request that you cancel the lesson by contacting your teacher with as much notice as possible. At this time there will be no penalty for cancelling a lesson due to health reasons regardless of the amount of notice given. A make-up credit will be offered and the lesson can be re-scheduled directly with your teacher. Likewise, please do not bring any siblings to the studio who may be unwell.
2. We request that all visitors to the studio wash their hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer on arrival at the studio.
In the interest of everyone's wellbeing, all students, parents, and siblings must wash or sanitize their hands prior to the commencement of the lessons. Please try and arrive a few minutes early to allow for hand washing. Likewise your teacher will also wash / sanitize their hands in between every lesson they teach during the day.
3. Hygiene etiquette during the lesson
If you need to cough or sneeze during the lesson, please use the tissues provided which will be located near the piano in all studios. Please place the tissue into the waste basket and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before resuming the lesson. Due to the pandemic, this is an important time to practice exceptionally good hygiene etiquette.
4. Any Melbourne Piano School student who has had close contact with a person with confirmed coronavirus must contact us and discontinue in-person piano lessons for a period of 14 days.
Following government guidelines, any person who has had close contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis must undertake self-isolation for a period of 14 days. Online piano lessons will be offered in this case.
5. Online Piano Lessons
While attending a private piano lesson at a teacher's home is a relatively low risk activity, we understand that some students may not want to attend lessons at this time. Most teachers are able to offer online piano lessons via Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp, etc. as an alternative to visiting the teacher's studio. We believe it's important to maintain educational continuity and online piano lessons can be a very effective alternative to in-person lessons. Please contact your teacher if you'd like to discuss this further.
6. COVID-Safe Plan
All Melbourne Piano School teachers are required to have a COVID-Safe Plan in place which is specific to their studio.
