Alex Forbes, Classical Pianist & Music Educator

Alex Forbes is a classical pianist currently completing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. He is now available for in-home piano lessons throughout Melbourne’s inner suburbs including Carlton, Fitzroy, Melbourne CBD and surrounding areas. Alex also teaches at the Melbourne Piano School Hawthorn studio.

Originally from Adelaide, Alex began learning piano at the age of nine and studied under Dr Diana Weekes. He has performed widely in Eisteddfods, lunchtime concerts, and competitions, both as a soloist and in collaborative settings. Alex brings a wealth of performance experience to his teaching, along with a deep love for music and education.

Alex enjoys teaching students from beginner through to early advanced levels, and is experienced in preparing students for AMEB and other exams. He is passionate about helping students to build a strong foundation in technique, theory, and musical expression—while also nurturing a genuine love for music by ensuring that lessons are fun and engaging.

As an educator, Alex is always keen to discover and cultivate each student’s unique musical interests. He enjoys finding suitable repertoire based on the student’s level and interests, rather than using any set method. Alex believes that piano lessons should be enjoyable, and that students learn best in an environment where they feel encouraged, confident and independent.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide, with majors in French and Linguistics. He offers piano lessons in both English and French.
