It also allowed her to major in both piano and voice, focusing on developing her own original compositions and arrangements. She was awarded the ArtStart Grant from Arts Victoria in 2011, at the completion of her studies. Kirsty has been a member of a diverse array of musical projects since her arrival in Melbourne in 2002. This has spanned her multi-genre solo projects Koto and Kotet, the folk-rock orchestra Lamplight, soul-funk outfit North City, to vocal acapella trio Myriad, Balkan-Baroque ensemble Anja & Zlatna and Latin-American folk duo Alas de Luz. She has a wealth of performing experience in venues across Australia and Europe, including the Melbourne Recital Centre, Australian Digital Concert Hall, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Folk, Rhythm and Life Festival. Kirsty’s musical passions are wide-ranging but at the centre of it all is a deep respect and admiration for the power of music to inspire, connect and transform individuals, communities and cultures. She believes that at the root of a desire to learn music is a calling from within that deserves to be nurtured, understood and fully expressed. Lessons with Kirsty are individually curated to the student’s needs, preferences and desires. She loves to support students find their natural motivation for learning and practicing music by ensuring that materials are oriented to their most exciting inspiration. She is adept at teaching any style of music, and can also provide the necessary guidance to uncover what really lights students up. She has helped students achieve consistently impressive results in AMEB exams, if that is the chosen path, or can also curate a pathway that is completely their own. Beginner methods used by Kirsty include Piano Safari and Forrest Kinney’s Four Arts of Music. Beyond this, she will help you curate repertoire and develop creative pursuits that nurture your aspirations and inspirations.
