Melbourne Piano School offers piano lessons at our main studio in Hawthorn with four outstanding tertiary educated pianists and music educators. Lessons are taught on our beautiful Steinway grand piano in a tranquil and light filled studio.
We are conveniently located at the SWell Centre at 2 Minona St, Hawthorn, close to Auburn Station and Swinburne University.

Dr. Jakob Bragg, Pianist, Composer and Educator
Jakob Bragg is a pianist, composer, improviser, researcher, and lecturer, deeply passionate about music and musical education.
Jakob has taught music for over sixteen years, privately, in primary and secondary schools, at universities, and at conservatories in Australia and the UK. He teaches piano, music theory and history, composition, and improvisation to all ages, from beginners to advanced students.
Jakob’s approach to musical education is one of mentorship and approachability, tailoring materials to the needs of the individual student. As a classically trained pianist, Jakob has completed a PhD at the University of Huddersfield, UK as well as a Master of Music at the University of Melbourne. He has also furthered his education in contemporary music and composition at the 49th Internationale Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik Darmstadt (Germany), the 10th Impuls Academie in Graz (Austria), and the Académie Voix Nouvelles Royaumont (France).
Jakob's premieres and performances extend across five continents, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, USA, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Türkiye, Australia, and New Zealand. He has worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, ELISION Ensemble, Arditti Quartet, Cikada, and Zöllner-Roche Duo. Alongside working for Melbourne Piano School, Jakob lectures music theory at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (University of Melbourne) and works as a freelance composer.

Eve Mugavin, Pianist & Music Educator
Eve Mugavin is a classically trained pianist and passionate piano teacher offering piano lessons on Mondays at the Melbourne Piano School Hawthorn studio. Currently completing her Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium, she teaches students of all ages and levels, from beginners through to those preparing for exams or pursuing advanced repertoire.
Eve has studied piano since childhood, achieving AMEB Grade 8 and earning recognition for her leadership in school music, including conducting choirs and accompanying ensembles. Her lessons are designed to build strong technical skills while also developing broader musicianship, including theory, aural work, and sight-reading.
Students appreciate Eve’s warm, professional and supportive approach. Eve also offers in-home piano lessons Tuesday to Sunday in Hawthorn and surrounding suburbs. View her full bio here.

Elizabeth Kefaloukos, Pianist & Music Educator

Elizabeth Kefaloukos is an aspiring concert pianist with a passion for music performance. She now offers piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities at the Melbourne Piano School studio in Hawthorn.
Beginning her musical education at the age of three, Elizabeth has been immersed in piano practice and performance for much of her life, and has been teaching piano for the past five years. She has experience preparing students for AMEB exams, local competitions and recitals, whilst undertaking a broader programme of repertoire and technical work extending beyond exam requirements. Currently completing her Bachelor of Music at The University of Melbourne majoring in piano performance, Elizabeth studies under esteemed piano pedagogue Glenn Riddle. She has previously studied and performed at the Sichuan Conservatorium of Music, and has placed in a number of Eisteddfods and competitions, including the Junior Chopin Competition at Royal South Street and the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition. Elizabeth has participated in various music festivals and performed in venues across Chengdu, Melbourne and in Geelong. Whilst thoroughly enjoying the music of Bach, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, Elizabeth also has a keen interest in contemporary music - including the works of Colin Brumby and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Away from the piano, Elizabeth enjoys competitive fencing, marathon racing and advocating for social justice and human rights. Alex Forbes, Classical Pianist & Music Educator
Alex Forbes is a classical pianist and teacher based in Melbourne, currently completing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. With a strong foundation in classical training and a broad performance background, Alex brings both skill and enthusiasm to his teaching.
Originally from Adelaide, Alex began learning piano at age nine and has since performed in many concerts, competitions, and collaborative settings. He works with students from beginner to early advanced levels and is happy to support students through AMEB exams up to Grade 5 level.
Alex takes a personalised approach to each lesson, aiming to develop confident, expressive musicians. He encourages students to explore a wide range of repertoire while building strong technique and musical understanding in a supportive and engaging environment. See Alex's full bio here.
