Please read the information below carefully before applying, and contact us if you have any further questions.
Minimum Requirements:
- a tertiary degree in music, or working towards completion of music degree
- minimum of 2 years piano teaching experience
- valid Working With Children Check (Victoria)
Commitment:
Due to the nature of music education, we are seeking teachers who have a long-term commitment to piano teaching in Melbourne. We ask for a minimum of 2 years commitment to working with your students. We value continuity in the student-teacher relationship. You have the flexibility to determine your own working schedule -- including how many students you take on with MPS, your working hours and days, and vacation time.
About Our Students:
Melbourne Piano School students are of all ages and all backgrounds. Our client base is about 50% adults and 50% children. The majority of students are at the beginner or intermediate levels, while a smaller portion are advanced students.
Teaching Agreement:
Under the referral program Melbourne Piano School is not an employer, nor are you contractor for Melbourne Piano School. You continue to operate your own private teaching practice and are responsible for all aspects of your business. We refer students to you which may become your clients, whether short or long-term. You determine your teaching fees and collect all payments from the students. Melbourne Piano School works to promote you as a piano teacher and will send students to you as enquiries come through our website and marketing channels. In exchange for the services offered by MPS, teachers agree to pay a referral fee to Melbourne Piano School. No referral fee is payable if a referred student does not take lessons with you.
Referral Fees:
A one-time referral fee is payable for each MPS referral who becomes your student, due after the third lesson has been completed and the student has indicated they will be continuing. The referral fee is equivalent to 3 lessons, with a minimum charge of $150 + GST per student who has committed to continuing with you.
After the second lesson, we recommend invoicing the student for the remainder of the term so you have a financial commitment from them. This is a one-time referral fee and once paid, no other fees in relation to this student will be collected from MPS.
If the student decides not to continue lessons with you, the referral fee is 20% of the value of the lessons taken. So, if no lessons are taken, there is no referral fee.
Teacher Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and deliver high quality music lessons to your students
2. Maintain a clean, professional, and welcoming studio environment
3. Maintain your own piano and/or keyboard in excellent working condition
4. Keep accurate records of lessons taught for a referred student in daPulse, until the referral fee is paid.
5. Maintain warm and positive client relationships.
6. Update your availability in the MPS Teachers Availability Spreadsheet.
7. Familiarise yourself with MPS policies.
8. Respond to correspondence from the MPS admin team within 1 business day.
9. Pay referral fees as agreed by the due date.
