Another interesting look at the neurobiology of music. Research shows how playing music activates multiple areas of the brain simultaneously. The visual, auditory, and motor cortices especially get strengthened with disciplined practice over time. These intricate neural networks then work better for other activities as well. Playing music has also been shown to increase the volume and activity of the brain's corpus callosum, the bridge between the right and left hemispheres.
